UC Cyclery - Experts !

When I was a wee lad, a woman named Dottie opened Schwinn store in my neighborhood of University City (in San Diego). All of my bicycles came from UC Schwinn while I was growing up. I raced BMX, so I was always in there buyin' stuff. Number plates, new super sticky pedals, tires and tubes, a lightweight seat, brakes, etc. My BMX bikes growing up were a Torkker, a Diamondback.

Dottie eventually sold the store to a man named Sam and the store changed some, but was still "the place" the get stuff for my bikes as far as I was concerned. I later bought a Diamondback mountain bike from Sam. Sam later moved the store to a new location.

Well now I am all grown up. My bones are 37yrs old now. Due to an injury in my early 20's, I don't ride bikes anymore. I have a wheelchair instead. Wheelchairs are very expensive. But you can save a ton of cash by getting tires and tubes and spokes, etc from a bike shop instead of the wheelchair store.

UC Cyclery as they are now called (I don't' think they have been called UC Schwinn for maybe 20yrs) repeatedly impresses me. The people are not only friendly and helpful, but they are obviously expert at what they do. I know it's not rocket science and it's not brain surgery, but seriously... they know their stuff. Come in with a broken dérailleur and an expert eye can tell you the cause. I came in needing some spokes for my wheelchair. They said they might not be able to get the wheel perfectly true and explained why... but they did get it true anyway. Their standards are higher than my own, about my own stuff. Extreme attention to detail has infected each of the people working there. You can see it everywhere in the store.

While I wait for my spokes or flat tire to be fixed, I sit there and see streams of people come in for one thing or another. Each and every one of them gets expert treatment. These words I say are based on multiple visits, each of them as good as the last.

Check them out for your next bike, part or service
